Hindu Memorials should not be destroyed for the sake of Baalu’s [Shipping Minister] Gain.
Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy has moved the Supreme Court demanding that shipping minister T R Baalu, [D.M.K] already facing allegations about trying to favour his son’s company over gas allocation, be made a party in the pending petitions challenging the controversial Sethusamudram Channel Project involving dredging of ‘Ram Sethu’. In his application, the Janata Party leader alleged that Baalu’s family controlled firm — Meenam Fisheries Ltd — having fishing and shipping interest in the Palk Strait and Gulf of Mannar area, would “benefit tremendously from the implementation of the proroject.” He said this was the reason why the shipping minister was probably pushing for early commencement of the project, which had been stalled on the interim orders of the apex court. When senior advocate Fali S Nariman, appearing for the Centre, on Monday requested a Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan for early hearing, the court fixed it for Wednesday. While doing so, the Bench made it clear that it was for the government to come good on the expert committee report to justify the Rs 2,427-crore project. It said that the committee was not appointed by it, but by the government. Hence, it would not ask the government to supply documents relating to the committee to numerous petitioners. After stirring a controversy doubting the existence of Ramayan, Ram and its link with Ram Sethu, the Centre had withdrawn the affidavit and filed a fresh one seeking permission to resume dredging of the Sethu also known as Adam’s Bridge, saying religions and faith could not dictate its policy decisions. Indirectly hinting that linking Ram Sethu to Ramayan was a matter of faith, the Centre had laboured to clarify that matters of faith could not be the “basis and instrument” of State Policy — that was to go ahead with the Sethusamudram Channel Project.
Refusing to be drawn into and entangled in a religious controversy at a time when its ally DMK was mounting pressure for early resumption of work at the stalled project, the UPA government had said: “The Union of India is of the belief that it should not be called upon to respond to issues of faith, except in recognising their existence.”
SETHU MUDDLE: Baalu’s family controlled firm — Meenam Fisheries Ltd — having fishing and shipping interest in the Palk Strait and Gulf of Mannar area Bench made it clear that it is for the government to come good on the expert committee report to justify the Rs. 2,427-crore project
Tamil Nadu Government is having, Authentic land Survey Records about Ram-Sethu.
The Tamil Nadu Government is purposely hiding the facts of available records about Ram-Sethu Bridge. About the existence of the Bridge, Ram-Sethu Bridge protection committee has now brought it to the notice of all people.
In the Department of land-survey records of Ramanathapuram district, in the Survey record books, it is shown in page 287, that 12 Acres and 91 Ars were the upland boundaries of Ram-Sethu island. Like this several other authentic information were also told by the elderly people of Ramanathapuram.
It was told by the people, that the Tamil Nadu Government is purposely hiding the facts of land survey records, to continue the work in digging the canal work in Ram-Sethu.
Both Ramayana and Mahabaratha are grand epics of India rich in theme and style. The two Indian epics have all these characteristics and present a picture of society of the Vedic period. However Ramayana deals with the events that took place than those described in Mahabaratha. Rama was central figure; Morals, religion, welfare of people and everything else depend upon his character and behaviour.
Rama’s kingdom was considered to be an ideal state and Rama was worshipped as a man of God. Ram-sethu Bridge constructed by Rama still remains in the mind of all Hindu people and they are worshipping it by going to Rameswaram and Dhanushkodi.
Hindus considered Ramayana as a sacred work and everyday they are worshipping Lord Rama as their Saviour. For the welfare of one party people, the memorials telling the story and society of Vedic period of India should not be destroyed.
