Viralminda Nayanar. விறன் மிண்ட நாயனார்.

Viralminda Nayanar. விறன் மிண்ட நாயனார்.

Viralminda Nayanar was born in Sengunru, a hilly place. He was a staunch devotee of Lord Siva. To him worship of Siva Bhaktas was equal, if not even superior to the worship of Lord Siva Himself. He felt that no one could get Siva’s grace without first worshipping Siva Bhaktas, and that he who worships even the Siva Lingam with all faith and devotion, would not attain salvation if he insults Siva Bhaktas. Daily he used to visit the temple. Before worshipping the Lord, he used to worship the Siva Bhaktas who might be found there.

He left Sengunru on a pilgrimage and came to Tiruvarur. One day when he was worshipping the Lord, Sundaramurthi Nayanar came to the temple. Sundarar by-passed the Bhaktas who were in temple and went into the sanctum sanctorum to worship the Lord. This upset Viralmindar, who was observing this. He could not tolerate this insult to His Bhaktas. He said to Sundarar: ‘You have insulted the Siva Bhaktas. By this act you have rendered yourself unfit to remain in the holy circle of Siva Bhaktas. Hence, you are excommunicated from this circle.’ He added further: ‘And, Siva, for having so thoughtlessly accepted such improper worship at your hands, He, too, shall be regarded as an outcaste from the divine fold.’ So firm was he in his conviction that he could thus ‘reprimand’ God Himself! In fact, it was Siva Himself Who spoke through him to instruct His Bhaktas in the proper attitude they should have towards His Bhaktas.

Sundarar immediately understood Viralmindar’s inner Bhav towards the Bhaktas as well as towards Lord Siva, and prostrated before him. He then sang a Padigam praising him. The Padigam melted Viralmindar’s heart so much that he greeted Sundarar and said: ‘Your mind is well established in the service of Siva Bhaktas. You have got sincere devotion to them.’ Lord Siva was greatly pleased with Viralmindar’s great steadfastness in his devotion to Siva Bhaktas. Thus had the Lord revealed the great glory of the Bhakta. He was then elevated to the blessed plane of the Siva Ganas where the Lord made him leader of the Ganas. Glory to such Bhaktas!

Maiporul Nayanar. மெய்ப்பொருள் நாயனார்.

Maiporul Nayanar. மெய்ப்பொருள் நாயனார்.

Maiporul Nayanar was a pious king. He ruled over the hill tribes of Sethi. He was chivalrous and brave. He fought many battles and was always victorious.

He was well versed in the Agamas. He was an ardent devotee of the Lord. Nayanar’s fame soon spread far and wide. This evoked the jealousy of Muthanathan, the king of the neighbouring state. He collected a big army and attacked Nayanar several times; but he was repeatedly defeated. So, Muthanathan resorted to foul-play. One day, he disguised himself as a Siva Yogi (for he knew that Nayanar had supreme devotion to Siva Bhaktas) and entered the palace at night. The gate-keepers did not question him, but allowed him to proceed. Dathan, the faithful and intelligent servant of Nayanar, was guarding the bedroom in which the king was sleeping. When the Siva Yogi approached the bedroom, Dathan tried to dissuade him from disturbing the king’s sleep; but the Yogi refused to listen, saying: ‘I have some secret Shastra to teach the king. I cannot wait.’ So, Dathan had to allow the Yogi to enter the bedroom of the king, though he was a little suspicious. Nayanar’s wife got up and, finding a Siva Yogi in the room, quickly awakened her husband. The Siva Yogi told the king that the Shastra was a great secret, revealed by the Lord Himself, and that only the king was entitled to hear it. At once the king sent even the queen away and prostrated before the Yogi, ready to receive the secret. At that moment, the Siva Yogi, who was none else than the jealous king Muthanathan, quickly stabbed Nayanar on his back, with a knife he had kept hidden. At that time, the shrewd Dathan, as he entered the room, found the king on the floor in a pool of blood and Muthanathan with a knife in his hand. He was ready to strike down Muthanathan, when the dying Nayanar said: ‘Datha, he is our man. He has the appearance of a Siva Yogi and so must be honoured as one. Do not harm him. Kindly escort him to the borders of our kingdom, and see that he is unharmed.’ Thus, Muthanathan was safely escorted out of the kingdom. And, Dathan hastened back to the palace to convey this news to the dying king who was eagerly waiting for it.

As soon as Dathan conveyed the news to the king, the Nayanar called all his Ministers and relatives to his bedside, and spoke to them as follows: ‘It is our duty to serve the Bhaktas. They must be honoured and worshipped at all times and under all circumstances. With these words, he closed his eyes and meditated on Lord Siva.

Lord Siva appeared before Nayanar and blessed him as follows: ‘I am immensely pleased with your cosmic love and your unquestioning devotion to My devotees. Even in a murderer you saw me. You are, therefore, fit to reach the Highest Abode which even the Devas cannot hope to reach. You will soon come to My Abode.’ With these words the Lord disappeared: and Maiporul Nayanar (whose very name meant ‘one for whom God was the sole reality’) also attained His Abode.

Karunanidhi’s family had earned Rs 20,000 crore in free T.V. Distribution.

Karunanidhi’s family had earned Rs 20,000 crore in free T.V. Distribution.

The distribution of free colour television sets, started by the previous DMK regime to woo the poor, was on Friday [10-6-2011]scrapped by Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa on the grounds that the scheme was intended to boost the profits of the cable TV company run by the Maran brothers.

Tamil Nadu C.M. Jayalalithaa said the DMK government had procured colour TVs at an average price of Rs 2,265, spending about Rs 3,687 crore in all for 1.6 crore units. Although people got free colour TV sets, they had to pay the cable charges from their pocket to view different channels.

Jayalalithaa said in all, people paid Rs 4,000 crore a year for cable connections, a business which is dominated by Karunanidhi’s grand-nephews Kalanithi and Dayanidhi Maran who own Sumangali Cable Vision and Karunanidhi’s grandson Durai Dayanidhi. She alleged that if Karunanidhi’s family had earned Rs 4,000 crore a year, in five years it would amount to Rs 20,000 crore. “This scheme is not a people’s welfare scheme. The scheme was brought by the DMK for their personal benefit.”

The 2.27 lakh colour televisions, already procured by the earlier regime but which are yet to be distributed, would be given to schools, orphanages and primary health centres, Jayalalithaa said. The orders for around seven lakh more television sets to be procured under the sixth phase of the scheme had been cancelled.

It is our request that the present Chief Minister must take proper decision and arrangement before distributing any freebies to public.

Police security was misused by Karunanidhi for his 135 family members.

Police security was misused by Karunanidhi for his 135 family members.

Chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday charged the previous DMK regime with misusing the state police force to give “unofficial” security cover to as many as 135 family members of her predecessor M Karunanidhi.

Replying to the debate on the motion of thanks to the governor’s address, she pointed out that police personnel were unofficially deployed at the residence of Karunanidhi’s son and Union fertilizer minister M K Alagiri. “In addition, police force was also posted for close associates of Alagiri,” she said.

Jayalalithaa said that in the name of providing security to VIPs, security posts were set up at more than 10 places in Chennai alone. “The services of the police were utilised for providing security to political leaders, private organisations and for VIPs in Madurai,” she said in a clear reference to DMK strongman Alagiri. “In some cases, traffic police were on VIP duty from 4am to 11pm in the last five years. However, these personnel have now been recalled and posted at various places to oversee the smooth flow of traffic. “I have ordered the police force to take strict action against those who indulge in unlawful activities,” she said adding that the police machinery is now fully available for maintaining law and order.

She alleged Karunanidhi’s family members and party persons also influenced the government on postings ranging from the constable level to senior ranks.

Jayalalithaa, who has consistently maintained that her government’s top priority is to restore law and order and provide efficient governance, noted that during the previous regime, law and order issues were severely affected. “Once the Tamil Nadu police was compared to Scotland Yard. But during the past five years it has lost that good name and now it is in pathetic shape,” she said. The chief minister said she would bring the police force back on rails to help it regain its glory.

Landgrabbing and extortion were common problems during the previous regime, she said. Many were wrongfully dispossessed of their immovable properties through force and intimidation, she said, adding the government has decided to take appropriate action and restore such properties to their rightful owners by enacting a new law soon.

“People know that whenever I become chief minister, deterrent actions are pursued against anti-social elements and terrorists to make the state a haven of peace,” she said adding, the present government will take the required stringent measures and restore law and order in the state so that people can live in peace and fearlessly pursue their livelihood.

We request the Chief Minister to instruct the police Department to take quick action on the complaints received from the public duly registering them immediately.

Jayalalithaa has kept her promise by distributing 20kg free Rice on 1-6-2011.

Jayalalithaa has kept her promise by distributing 20kg free Rice on 1-6-2011.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has ordered distribution of free rice to below Poverty Line (BPL) families and gold to women, living up to one of her main poll promises.

On her first day as chief minister, Jaya said 20 kg of free rice will be distributed every month to ration card holders and 35 kg to BPL families.
Jaya ordered distribution of gold for ‘magalsutras’ for women and also doubled marriage assistance to the poor from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000.

Like the release of a much-awaited movie, for the last 15 days public distribution system (PDS) shops in the state had put up boards announcing the commencement of the first scheme of the new AIADMK government — the free rice scheme —from June 1. On 31-5-2011Tuesday, the day before the launch, the state civil supplies department was a flurry of activity. Meetings were held and lists ticked off as officials from all over the state called to confirm the delivery of rice to their taluks. Jayalalitha distributed Rice for Ration Card holders at Alwarpet, Chennai.

However, food and co-operation secretary V K Jeyakodi said the rice distribution logistics was not particularly different or difficult this time. “The quantity being allotted to each family remains the same,” he said. “The only difference is that it is being given free.”

The increase in the quantity comes from an increase in the number of cardholders, said an assistant commissioner. They anticipate the off take to be higher this month as more people will line up to avail of the scheme. “We will know about off take only at the end of this week,” he said. Jayalalithaa has kept her promise by distributing 20kg free Rice on 1-6-2011. Tamil Nadu people are very happy with Jayalalithaa’s attitude and aiming for more from her.

Karunanidhi without blaming AIADMK or others, he must realize that he was the main reason for the defeat of D.M.K. and for the growth of his family members in all the fields and neglected the people of Tamil Nadu. Without taking any step to curve the bribe taken by his Ministers during his rule, he is now telling the reason that their arrest was they are not having any sacred thread on them. In those days Karunanidhi was telling “Down with northern India domination and northern India people. Like that he even now wants to create caste feeling that will not help him in getting back to his rule.

Whether Maran received indirect stakes from AIRCEL?

Whether Maran received indirect stakes from AIRCEL?

AFTER A RAJA former DMK Minister, the CBI’s next target in the 2G spectrum scam is Dayanidhi Maran the present Minister. Perhaps the youngest minister at 38, he served as telecom minister in UPA-1 from May 2004 to May 2007. He fell out of favour with his grand uncle, DMK supremo M Karunanidhi, but returned in 2009 as textiles minister in UPA-2. The CBI suspects he has indirect stakes in Aircel, which he allegedly promoted during his stint as telecom minister.

A CBI source told TEHELKA that there is a watertight case against Raja and DB Group MD Shahid Balwa. “We have tracked 2G spectrum money worth Rs. 200 crore, which was transferred from DB Group to DMK’s Kalaignar TV,” said a source. “We are only waiting for a reply to our letter rogatory (LR) sent to Mauritius about a month ago.” This query is about Mauritius- based Delphi Investments, which has stakes in Swan Telecom. The reply will only throw up names of some more beneficiaries in the scam. The puzzle about Unitech’s role is also more or less solved. The CBI will next investigate the allocation of spectrum during Maran’s stint.

JUSTICE PATIL’S report has also faulted Maran’s functioning. Recounting procedural lapses, the report says that Maran did not consult the Telecom Commission, the telecom department’s decision-making body, and ignored the Group of Ministers (GOM) while taking crucial policy decisions.

Intrigued by all this, the CBI is likely to summon Sivasankaran, Dr Reddy and Maxis Communications owners for questioning. The CBI is in the process of sending an LR to Malaysia to ascertain details of Maxis’ ownership, the sources say, while adding that Maran will also be questioned.

In his asset declaration for 2009-10, Maran did not appear to be particularly well-heeled, declaring only Rs.6.87 crore. He also owns a Mercedes valued at Rs. 8.10 lakh and a Toyata Innova at Rs. 12.24 lakh. His successor Raja appears to be even worse off, with assets of only Rs. 1.95 crore in 2009-10. The CBI has tracked Raja’s hidden money. Now it’s the turn of Maran.

Union textiles minister Dayanidhi Maran on Tuesday issued a legal notice to Tehelka magazine calling its report — that he had deliberately delayed clearing application for licenses of certain telecom companies in 2006 —a blatant and concocted lie. Maran, a grand nephew of former Tamil Nadu CM and DMK supremo M Karunanidhi, accused Tehelka of pursuing a jaundiced form of investigative journalism. According to the Tehelka report, Maran’s decision pressurized the telecom firm Aircel to strike a deal with Maxis. Tehelka said in a statement that it was yet to receive the notice. “We are told that Dayanidhi Maran has sent us a notice but we haven’t received it yet.

What Tehelka going to reply? we have to wait and see.
