Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam Sri Maha Swamigal Golden words about Sambandhar.
திருஞான சம்பந்தர் “மந்திரமாவது திருநீறு” என்ற பாடலைச் சொல்லி மன்னன வயிற்றில் திருநீற்றை தடவி வயிற்று வலியைப் போக்கினார்.
Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam Sir Maha Swamigal has guided this world with his Golden words and showed the way of living to all the people to adopt Truth, Dharma and selfless service. I am telling here about some portions from his golden words.
Mangaiyarkkarasi, was the daughter of a Chola king given in marriage to the Pandiiya king Nedumaran. The king was influenced by Jain monks and accordingly Jainism was the official religion in the kingdom.
However, mangaiyarkkarasi and the chief minister, kulachiraiyar were ardent devotees of Lord Shiva. They were, however, helpless in getting the king back to Saivism. They sought the help of the child saint Thirugnanasambandhar who agreed to go to Madurai to set matters right. The queen knew the Jain monks would do anything to oppose and defeat the purpose of Sambandhar’s visit to the kingdom and if that were to be the case she was prepared to sacrifice her own life. As expected the Jain monks set fire to the place where Sambandhar and his associates were staying. With the help of the Lord that disaster was averted and the fire was transferred to the king’s stomach to cause him pain.
The Jain monks could not cure the king’s malady. Sambandhar came around and applied the sacred ash on the king’s stomach singing “mandhiramavadhu neeru” (the mantra is the sacred ash).
The king was cured of the intense stomach pain. The king then got convinced of the greatness of Saivism and embraced it. While Sambandhar was the hero of the episode of conversion of the king back to Saivism, the queen mangaiyarkkarasiyar, with the help of the chief minister, pledged her heart and soul in the mammoth effort.
This Mangaiyarkkarasi was also one among the Sixty Three Nayanmar’s. She prayed God, Oh Lord, deprive me of the present physical charm and let me have a demoniacal form. Her prayer was immediately granted and her charming youthful body was transformed into a skeleton.
Om Namasivaya! Om Namasivaya..!!
