Actress Sona says SPB Charan pressed me without restraint.[சரண் என்னைக்கண்டபடி அமுக்கினான்.] Tamil film actress Sona, who had lodged a complaint a week ago accusing singer and producer SPB Charan of misbehaving with her at a party, met Greater Chennai police commissioner J K Tripathy and submitted a VCD allegedly containing evidence to support her claim. However, the actress refused to give details about the CD. “I just came to submit the VCD and also request the police commissioner to pursue the case and order speedy action,” she told TOI. Sona said she couldn’t meet the police commissioner on Thursday and so returned to urge him to expedite investigation into the matter and also submit what she claimed was “evidence” to back her charges against the singer. Based on the actress’ complaint last week, the Soundarapandianar Angadi police had registered a case under various IPC Sections, including molesting charges, against the singer. When she demanded that he apologise for his indecent act, Charan allegedly denied and threatened her with dire consequences, Sona had then said. In her complaint, she said that at a party hosted to celebrate the success of Ajith’s 50th film ‘Mankaatha’, Charan, son of veteran playback singer SP Balasubramaniam, molested her under the influence of alcohol. The party was held at actor Vaibhav’s house where director Venkat Prabhu, actor Premji Amaran and a few others participated, the complaint added. “I have exposed the issue to the media and the police only to ensure that he (Charan) does not repeat such acts again, not only with me but also with any other woman,” Sona said. “I am in the industry for my livelihood. But I do have my dignity. Charan should apologise for his act,” Sona had demanded. It is our request to safeguard self respect that any actress should not attend public functions in sexy dresses to attract others attention particularly youngsters.

Amaraneedi Nayanar. அமர்நீதி நாயனார். Amaraneedi Nayanar belonged to Pazhaiyaarai in the Chola Kingdom. Pazhaiyaarai was a very fertile place, surrounded on all sides by gardens and green fields. Amaraneedi Nayanar was a trader in gold, diamonds, silks and cotton goods. He earned money honestly and became rich. Though he was engaged in worldly activities, his mind was fixed on Lord Siva. He was an ardent Siva Bhakta. He would invite Siva Bhaktas to his house and worship them. He would give the Kowpeenam, cloth, etc., and feed them nicely and send them away happy, with other gifts. Lord Siva was highly pleased with Amaraneedi Nayanar’s Kowpeena charity and extreme kindness to Siva Bhaktas. He wanted to show to the world His Bhakta’s greatness and also shower His blessings on him. So, one day Lord Siva in the guise of a Brahmachari, with beautiful matted locks on his head, sacred ashes on his forehead, with a staff on his shoulder, appeared before Amaraneediar’s Mutt. Two Kowpeenams and a small ash-bag were tied to one end of the staff. He had a charming face. His eyes were glittering. He walked gracefully into the Mutt. Amaraneediar, with extreme joy, welcomed him and worshipped him. The Brahmachari said: ‘Oh friend, you are a noble soul. People are highly praising your Kowpeena charity. I have come to you for Darshan.’ Amaraneediar begged of him to take Bhiksha. He readily agreed and said: ‘I shall go to the river and return after finishing my bath and Nitya Karmas. Rain may drench my Kowpeenams. So, please keep this dry Kowpeenam safely with you, and I shall come back for it. The Kowpeenam is very precious, as you already know. So, please keep it safe.’ The Brahmachari went away, and Amaraneediar kept the Kowpeenam safely inside the house. But, the Lord willed that it should disappear! Soon after the Brahmachari came back after his bath, etc., and asked for the dry Kowpeenam as rain had drenched the Kowpeenam he had on the staff. Amaraneediar could not find it. He prayed hard to the Lord. Yet, he could not find it. He approached the Brahmachari, trembling, with another Kowpeenam, and explained his predicament to him. But, the Brahmachari was in no mood to take any explanation. Amaraneediar offered much wealth, etc., in compensation. But, the Brahmachari said: ‘What have I to do with all this wealth? All these are of no use to me. I only need a Kowpeenam.’ And, in saying so, the Lord in the guise of the Brahmachari, uttered a very great truth. He continued: ‘I have got another Kowpeenam: you can give me another of the same weight.’ Amaraneediar was greatly relieved when he heard this. He brought a balance. He put the Kowpeenam on one side and another piece on the other. The Brahmachari’s scale went down. Whatever Amaraneediar put on his side, the Brahmachari’s scale was heavier. Amaraneediar was amazed: and he understood that it was God’s own Lila Amaraneediar got on the scale with his wife and his child, saying: ‘If I have truly served the Siva Bhaktas, with faith and sincerity, let this sca1e be equal in weight to the other one.’ Immediately the two scales were equal. The merit of Amaraneediar’s selfless service of the Siva Bhaktas was equal to the merit of Lord Siva’s Kowpeenam. The people who witnessed this were wonderstruck. They prostrated before Amaraneediar and praised him. The Brahmachari disappeared and Lord Parameswara and Mother Parvathi appeared on Their Rishabha before Amaraneediar, his wife and child. Unable to bear the burden of sins committed by evil kings and rulers, Mother Earth, appealed to Brahma, the Creator for help. Brahma prayed to the Supreme Lord Vishnu, who assured him that he, would soon be born on earth to annihilate tyrannical forces. One such evil force was Kamsa, the ruler of Mathura (in northern India) and his people were utterly terrified of him. On the day Kamsa's sister Devaki was married off to Vasudeva, an akashvani or voice from the sky was heard prophesying that Devaki's 8th son would be the destroyer of Kamsa. The frightened Kamsa immediately unsheathed his sword to kill his sister but Vasudeva intervened and implored Kamsa to spare his bride, and promised to hand over every new born child to him. Kamsa relented but imprisoned both Devaki and her husband Vasudeva. When Devaki gave birth to her first child, Kamsa came to the prison cell and slaughtered the newborn. In this way, he killed the first six sons of Devaki. Even before her 8th child was born, Devaki and Vasudeva started lamenting its fate and theirs. Then suddenly Lord Vishnu appeared before them and said he himself was coming to rescue them and the people of Mathura. He asked Vasudeva to carry him to the house of his friend, the cowherd chief Nanda in Gokula right after his birth, where Nanda's wife Yashoda had given birth to a daughter. He was to exchange his boy and bring Yashoda's baby daughter back to the prison. Vishnu assured them that "nothing shall bar your path". At midnight on ashtami, the divine baby was born in Kamsa's prison. Remembering the divine instructions, Vasudeva clasped the child to his bosom and started for Gokula, but found that his legs were in chains. He jerked his legs and was unfettered! The massive iron-barred doors unlocked and opened up. While crossing river Yamuna, Vasudeva held his baby high over his head. The rain fell in torrents and the river was in spate. But the water made way for Vasudeva and miraculously a five-mouthed snake followed him from behind and provided shelter over the baby. When Vasudeva reached Gokula, he found the door of Nanda's house open. He exchanged the babies and hurried back to the prison of Kamsa with the baby girl. Early in the morning, all the people at Gokula rejoiced the birth of Nanda's beautiful male child. Vasudeva came back to Mathura and as he entered, the doors of the prison closed themselves.

When Kamsa came to know about the birth, he rushed inside the prison and tried to kill the baby. But this times it skipped from his hand and reaching the sky. She was transformed into the goddess Yogamaya, who told Kamsa: "O foolish! What will you get by killing me? Your nemesis is already born somewhere else. All people of Gokul danced in joy and flocked to Nandas house to see Baby Krishna and to offer gifts.

Anna Hazare's anti-corruption campaign, who were demanding a strong Jan Lokpal, was received support from almost the entire India. Anna Hazare who was arrested in the morning of 16-8-2011 refused to leave Tihar jail on 16-8-2011 mid night after the police withdrew the case against him and his seven arrested associates and a magistrate issued a release warrant for all eight. Hazare had the police and jail authorities scratching their heads by saying he would not leave the jail until the police gave him an undertaking allowing him to hold his indefinite fast at JP Park without conditions. Senior police officers rushed to Tihar latter to try and persuade Hazare to leave the jail, while a crowd of amused residents from nearby areas, including women and children, turned out before the gates to witness the fun. Hazare said he would go to JP Park straight from the jail after getting an undertaking from us. Around midnight, Hazare was resting on a sofa in the office of director-general (prisons) Neeraj Kumar while jail and police officers sat in chairs around him, trying to talk him round. Hazare has refused dinner saying he is on fast. “Both Hazare and (Arvind) Kejriwal have refused to do so. We cannot force them to sign as it will create more trouble for the government,” the jail official said. Only one of the jailed Team Hazare members, Manish Sisodia, signed on the release order and came out. He then sat on a dharna outside the prison with hundreds of supporters who shouted anti-government slogans.

“I have come out to convey his message to the people. Hazare will leave the jail only after getting written permission to hold the protest at JP Park. Else, he will continue to be there,” Sisodia said.

The emotive Sri Lankan Tamils issue figured in the state assembly on 11-8-2010 with chief minister J Jayalalithaa insisting that India convey its protest against the “motivated” remarks of Sri Lanka defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa on the resolution passed by the assembly recently on the plight of Tamils living in the island nation.

In a recent interview to a private channel, Gotabaya Rajapaksa had hit out at Jayalalithaa for demanding that Lankan leaders, including President Mahinda Rajapaksa, be brought to trial for alleged war crimes. “This (resolutions passed in the Tamil Nadu assembly) must be for her (Jayalalithaa) to gain political advantage,” he said. Replying to a special call attention moved by opposition parties, including the DMDK, the CPI and the CPM, Jayalalithaa said, “One suspect that Gotabaya Rajapaksa is encouraged to give such an interview because of the inaction of the Centre on the resolution passed by the assembly. This government will not rest until Sri Lankan Tamils are rehabilitated and live in conditions on a par with other Sri Lankans.” She assured members that her government would continue to take diplomatic steps and would not relent until a solution is found. Recalling an earlier resolution urging the Centre to impose economic sanctions on Sri Lanka, Jayalalithaa said it was passed based on a UN committee report on alleged human rights violations during the final conflict between the armed forces and the LTTE. On June 8, the assembly passed a resolution demanding that the Centre take action to get all those responsible for largescale civilian deaths during the ethnic war declared as ‘war criminals’ by the International Court of Justice. It also demanded economic sanctions against the island nation to pressure the country into giving equal status and dignity to Tamils. If, as the Sri Lankan government claimed, there were no war crimes, why were they hesitant about facing the International Court of Justice, wondered Jayalalithaa. When former chief minister M Karunanidhi observed a fast and organised a human chain protest demanding ceasefire of the war in Sri Lanka, the government there did not react. But now it has raised a hue and cry over the resolution passed by the present Government. Former telecom minister Arun Shourie has stirred up a storm by alleging that a key official in the Prime Minister 's Office had wanted the PMO kept at "arm's length" on the 2G issue.

Shourie was reacting to former telecom minister and 2G accused A Raja's contention in court on Monday[25-7-2011] that he had discussed the 2G spectrum allocation issue with Singh and Chidambaram .Shourie claimed that he was basing his statement on the Prime Minister's file on this issue.


Shourie claimed he was referring to a file noting by the Principal Secretary to the PM on January 15, 2008. Shourie said, "He (the official) wrote that the PM wants this informally shared with the Department Telecom and does not want any formal communications. The PM wants the PMO to be kept at an arm's length."


The "arm's length" reference was presumably to flurry of letters written by stating that the PM had been informed and that he (Raja) had the benefit the advice of the Finance Minister.


Shourie's statement raises a question mark over the denials by Sibal and Chidambaram that only the issue of dilution of stake by Unitech and Swan Telecom were discussed in the presence of the PM, and not any divestment.


Political observers said if Shourie's contention was correct, then there was a question mark over why the PMO wanted to be officially kept at a distance. "This would mean they were aware of Raja's actions," an observer said.


Shourie claimed that the government argument about the Prime Minister being concerned about dilution of equity by the licence-holders and not divesting does not stand.


"If it had been in line with foreign equity policy of the government why has this government issued a show cause notice of penalty to Etisalat for Rs 7,100 crore for violating FEMA?" Shourie asked.

on spectrum allocation while dealing with 2G allocation, Mr. Shourie said: "He is completely wrong in saying he was following NDA policy.
I can show he was not following any policy, procedure or principle."

"It is a very interesting point (fist-come-first-served-basis). It is a red herring shown to the public. The issue is that (former telecom minister) A Raja made money irrespective of whether it was a first-come-first-served policy or not.

Raja's disclosure in the court on Monday [25-7-2011] has not only given fresh ammunition to the Opposition to target the PM and Chidambaram, but

deepened the suspicion that a DMK Minister alone could not have been

architect of such a massive fraud.

Former Telecom Minister A. Raja on Monday defended himself against corruption charges in the 2G scam, saying he had not done anything wrong and was merely following the policies pursued by his predecessors and the NDA government.


The 47-year-old DMK MP pleaded before Special CBI Judge O.P. Saini that there was nothing wrong in his decision of not auctioning 2G spectrum as he had "implemented only what I have inherited."


Senior Advocate Sushil Kumar, appearing for Mr. Raja, said if Mr. Raja is being prosecuted for following a certain policy then all Telecom Ministers since 1993 are liable to be prosecuted as they too followed the same policy.


"If policy pursued by me was wrong, then all former Telecom Ministers since 1993 should also be in jail with me (Raja)," the counsel said while opposing framing of charges against Mr. Raja.


He said, "As Telecom Minster Arun Shourie distributed 26 licences while Dayanidhi Maran distributed 25 and I (Raja) distributed 122 licences. Numbers make no difference, however, it is to be noted that none of them auctioned the spectrum.


"If they had done no wrong, why am I being questioned? Let them deny that they have not done what I did. I was just following the 2003 Cabinet decision that is not to auction 2G spectrum. If I am following the law, I am not liable to be prosecuted. Infact, I should be rewarded."


Raja also dragged the names of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the then Finance Minister P Chidambaram. He said the PM was aware of the telecom decisions and even challenged Manmohan Singh. It is not known, who has advised Raja in the D.M.K. party to show his finger against P.M.

Serial blasts struck Mumbai on 13-7-2011 evening, less than three years after the 26/11 terrorist attacks of 2008. The three blasts, in sequence, were timed at 6.30 pm, 6.45 pm, and 7 pm IST, and targeted in that order Zaveri Bazaar, Opera House and the Kabutarkhana area of Dadar West. Zaveri Bazaar, centre of the jewellery industry, is adjacent the iconic Mumbadevi temple from which the city derives its name; both Zaveri Bazaar and Kabutarkhana were also targeted in the 1993 serial blasts.


No other city in the world has been the tragic target of as many serial terror attacks and bombings as Mumbai: 1993, 2002, 2003, 2006, 2008 and now July 13, 2011.


On 13-7-2011 Wednesday evening, three serial bomb blasts in the span of 12 minutes ripped through three of the busiest hubs in the city — Zaveri Bazar, Opera House and Dadar — at rush hour, killing 18 people and injuringmore than 100. The first explosion was at 6.54 pm at Zaveri Bazaar, followed by another at Opera House a minute later. The third explosion was at 7.06pm outside Kabutarkhana, a few metres away from the western side of Dadar railway station. This is the third terror attack at Zaveri Bazar.


The explosives with timer devices were kept on or near vehicles at Opera House and Zaveri Bazar while at Dadar a bus stop was the target. The police said the three locations, two of which were ‘khau gallis’, had been chosen for maximum impact. Police commissioner Arup Patnaik said it was a terrorist attack.


While the Mumbai police have not named any outfit responsible for the blasts, sources say that it could be the handiwork of a banned outfit, the Indian Muslims [Mujahideen ](IM), which recently formed a group, called the 313 Squad and has been recruiting youngsters to it.
